60 Azle Band Students win Honors – December 2006

Recently members of the Azle High School Band competed with seven other AAAA schools for positions in the TMEA All-Region Band. Out of 196 spots, sixty Azle students won honors. This was more than any other school, including Boswell, Saginaw, Springtown, Wichita Falls, Rider, Mineral Wells, and Brewer.

 The students had to perform three extremely difficult musical pieces for a panel of five adjudicators.  “We have been working on this music throughout the fall, and it is college-level in difficulty,” explained Ross Grant, band director.  “In the final couple of weeks everyone’s level of performance really improved. This is the most students we have ever had to win All-Region honors.” Azle garnered eleven first-chairs at the competition.

 35 of the students will advance to the Pre-Area Audition Level.  All of the All-Region Members will participate in a concert at Azle High School on Saturday, January 13. The event will be hosted by Azle High School. 

 Flute winners from Azle were Amanda Tompkins – 4^th chair Honors, Pre-Area, Katherine Lee – 9^th chair Honors, Pre-Area, Nancy Talbot – 10^th chair Honors, and Michelle Potts – 12^th chair Wind Symphony. Oboe winners were Kelly Bullock – 1^st chair Honors, Pre-Area, Eric Porter – 2^nd chair Honors, Pre-Area, Jessica Herrera – 1^st chair Wind Symphony, Pre- Area. Bassoon winners included Alyssa Pastre – 1^st chair Honors, Pre-Area and Sara Waresback – 3^rd chair Honors, Pre-Area

 Elisabeth Lee received 1^st chair Honors and Pre-Area on E-Flat Soprano Clarinet. B-Flat Soprano Clarinet winners were Nick Aspero – 1^st chair Honors, Pre-Area, Megan Waldock – 4^th chair Honors, Pre-Area, Sean McCarthy – 6^th chair Honors, Pre-Area, Megan Surber – 9^th chair Honors, Pre-Area, Laura Phillips – 11^th chair Honors, Pre-Area, Laura Gibbon – 13^th chair Honors, Sierra Mosier – 14^th chair Honors, Rachel Haptonstall – 9^th chair Wind Symphony, Mardigan Moffat – 10^th chair Wind Symphony, Natalie Crawford – 12^th chair Wind Symphony, David Crabtree – 14^th chair Wind Symphony, Britney Cole – 2^nd alternate. Rochelle Kaempf received 1^st chair Wind Symphony, Pre-Area on Alto Clarinet.  Alto saxophone winners include Summer Greene – 1^st chair Honors, Pre-Area, and Kaci Erwin – 2^nd chair Honors, Pre-Area. Winners for Tenor sax are Bruce McLemore – 1^st Chair Honors, Pre-Area and Antone Ritter – 1^st alternate. On Baritone Saxophone, winners included Laura Dudley - 2^nd chair Honors, Pre-Area, and Brianne Merck – 2^nd chair Wind Symphony

 Winners on trumpet were Michael Dunn – 3^rd chair Honors, Pre-Area, Patrick Oldroyd – 4^th chair Honors, Pre-Area, Christina Perez – 4^th chair Wind Symphony, Cody Keeble – 7^th chair Wind Symphony, Ross Peterson – 2^nd alternate. Winners on French Horn were Julie Spraggens – 3^rd chair Honors, Pre-Area, Megan Clark – 5^th chair Honors, Pre-Area, Chelsea Bosco – 7^th chair Honors, Pre-Area, Emily Yoder – 8^th chair Honors, Pre-Area, Jordan Schuster – 5^th chair Wind Symphony, and Jessica Draper – 8^th chair Wind Symphony

 Winners on trombone were Christian Paarup – 1^st chair Honors, Pre-Area, Michael Boren – 5^th chair Honors, Pre-Area, and Ryan Stultz – 1^st chair Wind Symphony. Bass trombone winners were Cameron Jones – 1^st chair Honors, Pre-Area, Crag McCauley – 2^nd chair Wind Symphony, Pre-Area. Winners on Euphonium included Chris Kearns – 4^th chair Honors, Pre-Area, Leann Ibarra – 2^nd chair Wind Symphony, William Shotwell – 3^rd chair Wind Symphony.
