The AZLE ISD Band ProgramDirectors:
The Azle High School Band consists of three concert bands, two jazz bands, a jazz combo, many percussion ensembles, and the Marching Green Pride. In 2003 the marching band advanced to the UIL State Marching Contest, placing 14th out of over 200 AAAA bands across Texas. The concert bands earned superior ratings at all contests in 2004, and the 1st Band won Best in Class at the South Coast Festival in Corpus. In 2005 Azle won Best in Class at the American Classic Festival in Breckenridge, CO. In 2006 Azle won Overall Best High School Band at the Peak Performance Festival at UNT, Denton, TX. In 2007 all 3 bands won Best in Class at Musicfest Orlando. Each year, during 2003-2007 over 100 students earned superior ratings on their UIL solos and ensembles, and qualified for the UIL State Contest. This was more than any other 4A or 5A school in the region. Many students distinguished themselves by earning All-Region and All-Area honors, with two students making the 2004, 2005 and 2006 Texas All-State Band, and three students making the 2007 TX All-State Band. The Azle Band Drumline earned superior ratings at several fall contests, and launched a very successful 1st Annual Percussion Bash event in the spring of 2004. The Azle Colorguard also have earned superior ratings throughout the fall seasons, and launched a new, competitive organization, the Azle Band Winterguard, in the Spring of 2004. The Winterguard is a dance activity which competes on a gym floor, to recorded music. The AHS Marching Band will field a record number 275 musicians in the fall of 2007, featuring its’ competition show: “Overtures: Revolution and Freedom” - The Music of Tchaikovsky & Shostakovich”. The entire Azle ISD Band Program currently includes over 700 students. The Azle Band Program has produced many fine musicians. However, that is not the program’s primary goal. Hundreds of Azle students have completed high school with experiences that have enriched their lives through music. It is hoped that the discipline, work ethic, team spirit, and relationships that are formed all help to mold good citizens for a global community. Future teachers, parents, community leaders, business men and women, who appreciate and defend the arts, will certainly make this world a better place. |
